The Online Catalog

The
online catalog locates all records which match a search key the user has entered, and
allows the user to move back and forth through them. There is a provision for subkey
searching, in which a second key must be found in the record before the data will appear
on the screen. The second key may be the physical location of the item if
you prefer.
Indexed
searching may be done by author, title, subject, call number, record or accession number,
and non-indexed searching may be done by anything at all
Full
Boolean
searching is available
Subjects
may be browsed or entered directly, and SEE and SEE ALSO references are accessed if
available. Pamphlets and films are integrated into the file as well.
Any
title may be assigned a two-letter code instead of a call number, and all titles have a
location code, allowing for multiple branches or locations within a branch
The
system can also make a printed copy of any record, and can search the circulation file to
see if a given title has been checked out
Bibliographies
may be created, and proofing is available
Material
which doesnt have CIP or full cataloging details available may be entered as well, a
feature designed for libraries which must arrange to borrow facilities from a nearby
larger library. Author, title, publisher, date, and collation are listed, based on
the theory that it is easy to take a printout to a neighboring facility. Anything
entered this way may be searched online, and when the missing data has been obtained the
new information is added to the record.
You
can maintain authority control, browse by subjects, authors, or titles, and print
bibliographies
